Colorado Fishing Report - Kansas Angler 02/15/22 Conditions are okay and there are midge, little BWO, winter stonefly and Skwala stonefly hatches taking place but we still didnt receive any reports from anyone fishing this past week. All sections are turning out trout. Most anglers heading into the backcountry take only a minimum amount of fly fishing gear. 06/11/21 The stream is still too high to fish. For more information, call 303-326-8425. Fly Fishing On The St. Vrain Creek In ColoradoThe St. Vrain is a very beautiful creek. Spring and fall offer the best hatches on the St. Vrain, but terrestrials are a good bet pretty much year round for the fish. I could have excused my fussing around by thinking that John has fished the St. Vrain for all of his adult life and could gear up in his sleep for a days fishing, but theres more to it than that. Below Elevenmile Reservoir the South Platte River flows through Elevenmile Canyon. He then leap-frogged upstream making sure to leave some unfished water between us before he started fishing. Fish the lower sections. We should start getting good reports very soon. Flies: Flies to imitate the bugs; elk hair caddis; attractor patterns in pocket water; during summer months, moderate sized patterns 12 to 16 will work well. The next most important mayflies are the PMDs or Pale Morning Duns which hatch from about the last week of June through August. 09/06/21 The levels remain below normal but we are receiving reports of fish being caught. Fish: The upper reaches of all three forks have populations of cutthroat, brook and brown trout. The stream is in good shape and fish are being caught. The St. Vrain Creek has three main forks that form the main stream. All begin in either Rocky Mountain National Park or Indian. That probably only makes sense to a die hard small stream angler but when compared to other streams called small streams, it ranks right up at the top of the list. 02/23/22 We didnt get any reports from anyone fishing this past week. Keep in mind that the Middle and South St. Vrain tend to be busiest during the Spring, Summer, and Fall, so you may have to hike a bit to find a spot clear of other anglers. Rain is still forecast for the next few days and will hopefully bring the levels up. This area is loaded with great pocket water. When the water begins to drop, the fish become more active, feeding on an abundance of aquatic insect life. The town section in Lyons is loaded with fish and fun, but you have to compete with the noise of a town which some dont like. The creek is full of opportunistic fish that are eager to take a dry fly, so take advantage of the great caddis, blue wing olive and terrestrial fishing. 08/28/21 The stream is still low but trout are still being caught by customers fishing in the park. Fishing has been spotty depending on the section river, In Longmont the fishing has been better closer to the interstate. We got a report that the stream was still okay to fish and fish were being caught. Imitations of their larvae, pupae and of the adults will catch trout throughout the summer months. Below Deckers, the river continues into Strontia Springs Reservoir before it once again flows through yet another beautiful canyon and finds itself flowing into Chatfield Reservoir on the South West Corner of the Denver Metro Area.
